The Campus at A Kid's Place of Tampa Bay foster home.

Our Campus

Founded by Dottie Berger MacKinnon and a community of caring leaders and philanthropists, A Kid’s Place was established with children’s best interest in mind. Our mission is to protect and care for abused, neglected and abandoned children who have been removed from their homes.  A Kid’s Place provides comfort and safety in a stable and nurturing environment at a critical time.

Children at A Kid’s Place reside in a home-like setting with live-in house parents.  Brothers and sisters can safely live together in one of the five (5) homes located on the spacious five acre campus set in a neighborhood setting. The children benefit from a family "house-parent" model and often times this is the first positive family setting they have been exposed to in their young lives. Keeping siblings connected is paramount to the children and their development; providing a safe, stable and loving environment in an otherwise traumatic period in the children’s lives.

Our children, not only have life enriching activities, they also have access to onsite education, wellness exams, behavioral, dental, educational, and speech development services.  The ultimate goal is to provide these quality services to our children as well as enable the foster care system adequate time to place these children together as a group, keeping that family united. Since opening just nine (9) years ago, more than 1,300 foster children and more than 550 families have been served by this important community initiative.

My Philosophy - Dottie Berger MacKinnon

"Our kids have had a rough time before they came to us, and chances are they will have a rough time after they leave -  maybe for a long time.  Somewhere down the road they are going to remember that there was a period in their lives when life was good, when people cared, and there were loving people in this world who made them feel special - because they are.  That's A Kid's Place.  We all do our little part to make these children feel loved."
