If it’s true that dancing is less about technique and more about heart, then Julie Weintraub’s Hands Across the Bay has dancing all figured out. This annual tradition pairs ten local entrepreneurs, professionals, and community leaders with professional dancers from The Hip Room in Tampa to dance in an effort to raise money for local non-profits. This year, A Kid’s Place is one of the chosen charities and we are thrilled to be a part of this amazing event!
“Hands Across the Bay was started because my heart just broke when I heard about domestic violence, child abuse, unwanted pregnancies, homelessness, sex trafficking and other horrific stories,” founder Julie Weintraub explained. “I wanted to be a part of making a difference in the lives of people who needed someone in their corner. These people are right in St. Pete and Tampa…right in our own backyards.” On October first, we will gather at TPepin Hospitality Centre, which will be transformed into an Enchanted Garden. Men will be in tuxedos and women will sparkle in gowns as we support the dancers and raise as much money as possible. Every year it gets better and better and we can’t wait to see what the talented couples are capable of! Your votes are worth money as the fundraising frenzy begins, so be sure and watch for updates as the competition heats up! Our own dedicated volunteer, donor, wife of board member Fred Lay, and overall cheerleader/supporter LAURA LAY is nursing blisters on her feet, soaking aching muscles and giving it her all and we support her in this awesome endeavor to do good things for good people in the community!
