Birthdays are something  every child looks forward to and for many of the children at A Kid’s Place, the birthday they celebrate with us might be the only one where they receive multiple gifts and a cake with their name on it.  This February we celebrated a very special birthday in memory of our beloved founder and visionary, Dottie Berger MacKinnon.  On Dottie’s birthday, children gathered in the Activity Center to hear the story of the woman who built the facility these children temporarily call home.  With cake and a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday,” the children celebrated in Dottie’s memory before releasing balloons to heaven.  Gone but not forgotten, Dottie lives on through her legacy at A Kid’s Place, ensuring that abused, abandoned, and neglected children are treated with the love and dignity they deserve.
