AKP Teens Celebrate Homecoming Night

Recently, seven of the teens who call A Kid’s Place home were able to experience a magical evening at their High School’s “A Night in New York” Homecoming dance.

The Friday before, the girls of the group were able to visit Signature Nails in FishHawk for a relaxing salon day sponsored by Vera Wells. They were so excited to plan their custom nail designs that matched their unique personalities!

Saturday, the day of the dance, was packed with fun activities! The kids started early with hair appointments at the Aveda Institute. The Aveda team worked with our kids to make sure they all got the hairstyles they wanted. Later in the afternoon, the entire group got together to create flower arrangements and finish up their makeup looks.

Before heading to the dance, everyone met up in AKP’s Board Room to share a delicious dinner of sushi, Chinese food, and sandwiches. It was the perfect time for the teens to share laughs and get excited for the big night ahead.

So many volunteers generous donors helped our teens have this experience! AKP staff collected donations, set up schedules, helped style hair and makeup, picked out outfits, and snapped pictures throughout the day.

Thanks to our community’s kindness and commitment to helping children in foster care, these young people enjoyed a simple, wonderful gift: getting to be teenagers going to their high school dance. It was a wonderful evening full of fun memories they will cherish for a very long time.

With special thanks to Mrs. Candy Willoughby for sharing her notes and experiences.
