Indoor S’mores at Lazydays House

Mrs. G., one of the incredible house parents in A Kid’s Place’s Lazydays Employee Foundation House, recently hosted a cozy indoor s’mores cooking party with her kiddos. Making s’mores quickly became a meaningful moment for everyone involved, especially for our children that experienced making s’mores for the very first time. Joshua, age 10, shared that making them at home was fun and it made him feel like he was “doing something special,” turning a simple treat into a moment of joy.

The experience also created opportunities for connection and leadership. Several children visited Disney’s Fort Wilderness on a sponsored trip last year and had experienced a real campfire and s’mores making over a crackling fire. These children eagerly helped guide those newer to A Kid’s Place, showing them how to build the perfect s’more (and uncontrollably laughing when some marshmallows inevitably burned). Inspired by the stories and excitement shared by his housemates, Justin, who had never made s’mores before and now has the urge to spend time in nature, said that the activity made him wish he could make s’mores outside at a real campsite one day. The indoor s’mores maker used for the party was generously donated by a member of the community, making this sweet experience possible.

Moments like these remind us how powerful shared experiences can be. As Jayden put it, he loved “working together” and thought the s’mores tasted better because everyone helped. With continued community support, more children can experience a real campfire, teamwork, and the magic of making memories together. These are the moments that provide s’more than a home and they’re made possible by you!
