The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as Giving Tuesday, and has become a global movement that celebrates generosity, kindness and doing good deeds. Created in 2012 as a counterbalance to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday encourages people everywhere to give back in ways that make their communities stronger. It’s a reminder that compassion and a shared purpose can truly change lives.
Here in Florida, there are an estimated 21,000 children living in foster care, many of whom have experienced neglect or abuse. At A Kid’s Place, we provide a safe, loving and nurturing home for children who have often faced these challenge. Some of our children arrive after experiencing food insecurity and the fear of not knowing when their next meal will come. Nutritious meals play a vital role in helping children feel safe and cared for. Each week, our campus goes through about 75 boxes of cereal, 40 gallons of milk, and 70 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep our growing kids healthy and strong. A gift of $19 provides a week of meals and snacks for one child. It takes a village to create a safe and loving environment. Our donors, volunteers and staff are a vital part of ensuring every child has the meals, care, support and love they deserve.
