Kiara and her two brothers were among the first sibling groups to find a home at A Kid’s Place. Kiara is now a volunteer at A Kid’s Place who’s always looking for ways to give back. Watching her journey come full circle has been such a joy, and we’re so grateful she continues to be part of our community! What is one thing you are most proud of in your life so far?
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come. Growing up in foster care wasn’t easy, but I kept going even when things felt uncertain. I built a life for myself rooted in stability, growth, and compassion, and I’m proud that I’ve turned my experiences into something meaningful—especially by giving back.
Who has made a big difference in your life, and why?
The people who showed up for me with consistency and kindness made the biggest difference. Having a person who listens, believes in you, and doesn’t give up can change everything. I’d like to thank my partner, Daniel, especially.
What are your dreams for the future?
I dream of a future filled with purpose, peace, and growth. I want to keep building a life I’m proud of, surrounded by love, while continuing to give back—especially to kids and young adults who may not always feel seen or supported.
What would you like people to understand about kids in foster care?
Kids in foster care are just that—kids. They’re not broken or difficult; they’re resilient, strong, and full of potential. What they need most is patience, consistency, and someone who believes in them. A little compassion can truly change a life.
What is your favorite food or snack?
I love comfort snacks! Especially something sweet. It’s one of those little joys that always makes me happy.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I’m dreaming of a warm, peaceful getaway where I can unwind, discover new places, and soak up different cultures. Jamaica is on my mind right now!
What is something that always makes you smile?
Seeing people I care about happy or laughing always makes me smile. Genuine moments of connection mean a lot to me.
What is your favorite way to relax or have fun?
I enjoy self-care time like doing skincare, watching a good show, or spending time with people I love. I really value moments that help me slow down and recharge.
What is your favorite color and why?
Purple is my favorite because it represents warmth, confidence, and softness—all things I’ve learned to embrace about myself.
Do you have a favorite hobby or talent?
I love being creative and bringing people together—whether that’s organizing something meaningful or helping others feel supported and valued.
What is one word your friends would use to describe you?
Caring.
If you could tell the younger you one thing, what would it be and why?
I would tell her that she is stronger than she realizes and that everything she’s going through has a purpose. One day, the pain will turn into strength, and she will be so proud of herself.
