The final school bells have officially rung, and A Kid’s Place is buzzing with excitement! This year, a majority of our kiddos met their academic goals and more, proving that with stability and support, they can overcome any obstacle.
The school year was full of huge wins. A total of 20 of our children made it onto the Honor Roll this year. Seven of those children stayed on the Honor Roll for the entire school year! Near the end of the year, our middle and high schoolers worked harder than ever. In the final quarter, their GPAs jumped up by a whopping 42%!
On the FAST Math and FAST Reading tests, more than half of our children scored a Level 3 or higher, which means they are right where they need to be. Our teenagers also focused on staying on track for graduation. In the first semester, 58% of our high schoolers passed every single class. By the second semester, that number grew to 64%!
Another incredible milestone this year was cheering on three of our amazing young adults who officially graduated from high school! We are so proud of them, and we are thrilled that all three are staying with us in our Extended Foster Care program. This means they will get to keep living at A Kid’s Place and receiving support as they take their next big steps into adulthood.
To celebrate, everyone headed over to The Regent for a giant end-of-the-year party! The celebration was all about cheering on the kids for their hard work, and they even got a very special surprise! The kids got to hear a beautiful speech from Kiara Medina-Negron, who lived at A Kid’s Place with her siblings when she was younger. Her emotional and inspirational words truly moved everyone in the room! In another sweet twist, the children also voted on special awards to hand out to their favorite staff members to thank them for their love and support all year long.
Every single day, our children show us what true strength and perseverance look like as they overcome obstacles and reach for their dreams. We are so proud of their hard work, and profoundly grateful to the House Parents, staff, tutors, donors and volunteers who stand by them as part of the village helping them to succeed.
