- What brought you to AKP and when did you get involved?
I had mentioned my “music project for charity” to Frank and Terri Giardina of Buccaneer Linen, who invited Helen and I to the gala several years ago. We have donated our PhotoArt for the silent auction now for four years.
- What inspired you to become and remain a donor & volunteer of AKP?
The mission of AKP is close to my heart. Having grown up in an environment marked by severe abuse, I have developed a deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of other children facing similar challenges.
- What part of your involvement has meant the most to you?
At first, it was contributing PhotoArt. As a result of our first gala, we bought one of the children’s art sketches. This resulted in an ongoing mentoring relationship with that child – who is now in the process of adoption. Since we are photographers, Helen and I were also invited to photograph the annual graduation several times, which is so rewarding. I suppose the most rewarding involvement will be my current “Unity” album donation.
- What do you hope happens next at AKP and what do you wish your legacy to be at AKP?
I want AKP to continue to grow and increase services to children who need it, and to build and grow the new young adult program, for kids over 18. As far as legacy, I want the album to perpetually raise funds for the cause… and make a real difference in their lives.

- Tell us about this project and how it came to be?
Since retirement in 2021, I’ve dreamed about and worked on completing an album that could raise money for charities like AKP. It took 3 years to complete the 8 songs, with the collaboration of several musicians around the world, and the dedicated support of my producer Sterling Skye. I’ve invested a good amount of money and several hundred hours of studio work to produce this work of well-known cover songs. I’m proud to have it published for both download and/or streaming on 16 major platforms — my first personal album at 68 years old.
- How did you get into music?
I started in school band at 9 years old, as a percussionist, and participated in choirs. This grew to learning piano, and then singing in several bands on tour in the US. I started college as a percussionist performance major and graduated with a degree in business. For many years in Los Angeles, I also played drums and percussion in a television orchestra. Since retirement, I’ve spent my music-time learning studio skills and developing my voice.
