Extended Foster Care (EFC)

& Postsecondary Education Services and Support (PESS)

Aging out of foster care shouldn’t mean aging out of support.

At A Kid’s Place, we’re proud to offer additional services for young adults ages 18–23, a vital next step for young adults who are transitioning from residential care to living independently.

We offer two dedicated homes to serve young adults who have aged out of foster care, providing a safe, structured space where they can explore independence and learn through experience with guidance every step of the way.

From Foster Care to Independence

This program is a bridge between foster care and independence for young adults who have turned 18 and are ready to begin navigating adulthood.

While they’ve already been introduced to important life skills in our traditional residential homes, this next phase allows them to practice those skills in real-time without the pressure of “getting it all right.”

One of the unique strengths of our program is the opportunity for continued connection with their brothers or sisters who are in our traditional residential homes, allowing them to maintain meaningful family bonds.

Living in a designated EFC home gives young adults the space to:

Throughout the program, these skills are reinforced by trained program staff, who provide coaching, encouragement, and problem-solving support.

What Success Looks Like

With the right support, young adults don’t just age out of foster care; they grow into confident, capable individuals ready to take on the world.

Thriving beyond foster care looks like:

By offering two homes and a team of trusted adults, A Kid’s Place gives young adults the best chance at a successful future. Aging out of foster care isn’t the end of the journey, it’s the launchpad for a life of independence, confidence, and possibility.

“Without the kind of support that A Kid’s Place provides, I feel like I’d be at a higher risk for things like homelessness and that’s something that teens shouldn’t have to face, simply because of their circumstances.”

– A Kid’s Place Alumni

Because at A Kid’s Place, we believe every young adult deserves more than just a place to stay.

They deserve a place to thrive.
