§ What brought you to AKP and when did you get involved? I was introduced to AKP by Dottie Berger MacKinnon in 2013. She asked me to help, gave me a tour of the facility, and shared her passion for these children. The rest is history.
§ What inspired you to become and remain a donor & volunteer of AKP? Our mission of keeping siblings together speaks to my past. My parents split when I was very young and my Mother and older
brother struggled considerably for many years. During those difficult times, being with my brother made all the difference.
§ What part of your involvement has means the most to you? To see how we have grown over the past 10 years and our continued focus to deliver world class care to those children at need.
§ What do you hope happens next at AKP and what do you wish your legacy to be at AKP? I hope that the AKP model is replicated in other areas of the state / country where there is a similar need. I would hope that my legacy is helping take an outstanding organization from its infancy to a larger, more mature, and financially sound non-profit.
§ What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Indoor – Basketball with my boys. Outdoor – Golf and boating.
§ If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet? Queen Elizabeth (I’m Canadian).
§ Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad, but it turned out to be for the best? Too many to list……that’s life.
§ What three traits define you? Loyal, Generous, and Social.
§ What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t a financial advisor? I would be in the real estate business.
§ How do you define success? Being happy.
§ Who inspires you? Anyone who has found a path to financial and personal success.
§ Guilty Pleasure Food? Pizza… Sam & Eddy’s favorite place in Tampa.
§ Proudest Moment? Birth of both of my boys.
§ Words of advice? Treat people how you want to be treated.
§ What is a secret talent that no one knows? Very good at impersonations.
§ What is something that you have learned from your children recently? Try to approach situations / life like it’s your first encounter – without past prejudices.
§ What is your favorite family tradition? All being together for Thanksgiving.
§ What is your favorite thing about Tampa Bay? The people, weather, and water.
